WAVERLEY BASEBALL CLUB CHRISTMAS BREAKUP
Saturday 13 December 2003
What
a great night we had for our last day of 2003. Over 450+ players
and their families enjoyed our annual Christmas Family night. A
big thank you to all of you who helped out on the night – the
workload was certainly spread amongst many junior and senior families.
There
was something for everyone; jumping castles, running races, the ever
popular egg throwing competition, the pitching tunnel, parent’s
games, plenty of tucker and of course Santa. This year Santa
arrived on a very impressive sled pulled by 5 dogs! What a
treat! Thankyou to Sandra Beattie for making this possible and
of course thanks Santa helping us celebrate our day.
Our
parent’s games proved popular with many people missing out on the
opportunity to play. We also found that 45 minutes wasn’t
nearly long enough for our budding stars and some had to be almost
dragged off the field! We sparked more than a little interest in
our division 2 women’s team for next season which should provide a
path for our girls coming through the junior ranks (expressions of
interest will be posted with registrations next year). The
men’s game was so popular that they didn’t want to stop and
continued for an extra innings. Thanks to our commentator Paula,
who relished the opportunity to talk uninterrupted for almost 2hrs
straight!
Our
Christmas night is also when we recognise the new schools into our
junior program and this season we presented Lysterfield, Heany Park,
St Judes and Wheelers Hill Primary Schools with $500 sporting vouchers
in conjunction with Ross Haywood Sports. We look forward to the
schools having a long involvement with the Waverley Baseball Club.
Thanks
to everyone for a great first half of the season and we wish you all a
Merry Christmas and safe new year!!

WAVERLEY BASEBALL CLUB GOLF DAY
Monday 27 January 2003
Tommy
Rynberk steps up to the first tee. He is the fourth player in his
group to tee off. The gallery silences. He takes a deep
breath, and prepares himself for the tee off, sighing as he takes
another deep breath. He’s ready. He’s a graceful golfer (not!),
giving the appearance of skill and expertise as the golf club goes
into the back swing, gaining speed for the almighty drive that
should skim the ball through the air, and land in the middle of the
fairway several hundred metres away. But, no, Tommy is determined
not to live up to expectations today. No, he’s going to surprise
us all. The crowd goes wild as Tommy closes his eyes at the most
crucial point of his forward swing, and knocks the ball off the tee
by 1 inch. Tommy being Tommy, takes a bow, picks up his ball and
tee, and walks toward the green, buggy in tow, leaving the gallery
rolling with laughter.
Ryan
Lane, not to be outdone, is the next to tee off. He is determined to
better Tommy’s performance. Yes, its all planned out. A great tee
off, straight down the middle of the fairway, perhaps a bit of top
spin just to show that he knows what his doing. With his special
hired clubs, Ryan takes a deep breath, and bam! The ball heads hard
left, bouncing off a tree trunk 10 metres away, ricocheting down the
middle of the fairway, rolling longer than it should. Yes, Ryan’s
the man! What a magnificent golfer. What an inspiration!
It
was a beautiful 25 degree day on Monday 27th January, the Australia
Day public holiday, when 32 keen WBC golfers took to the greens of
Waverley Public Golf Course, prepared to strut their stuff. Amongst
the cheering, cheating and boozing, some golf was actually achieved.
The best team of the day, Kerry Gassner (no favouritism ‘cos his
wife was organising the day), Ryan Stanaway, Heath Martin, and
Daniel Reeman (no favouritism ‘cos his father supplied the first
prizes!) won by 1 stroke. An Ambrose competition, the winning teams
scores were close!
Congratulations
to Tony Page and Grant Karlson for Longest Drive(s) and Steve Murphy
for Closest to the Pin. A special thanks to Iveco and Solar Turbines
for providing the winning prizes.
The
inaugural annual golf event, we hope to see more players next year!

CHRISTMAS FAMILY NIGHT - U8's PRESENTATION
Saturday 14 December 2002
Another
most successful function at Waverley Baseball Club recently was the
Christmas Family Night & Under 8's Program Presentation.
Congratulations
and thanks to U8's Coordinator Michael Doherty, with his U8 team of
Sandra Lording and Ross Parnaby for their drive and organisation to make this night (and the
U8's program itself) a huge success for the club this year.
Estimates
of up to 200 people, including loads of cheerful children maintained
the best traditions of Waverley Baseball Club as a great place for
families to have fun!

WAVERLEY BASEBALL CLUB SHOPPING TOUR
Saturday 30 November 2002
Arranged
by our Social Events Director Melanie Gassner, we hear that the WBC
Shopping Tour was an outstanding success and a great day for those
who ventured along. The final numbers were a little disappointing
with some "late withdrawals" but this probably won't deter
us from scheduling this event again next year.
Some of
the men at the club are still sweating over the arrival of the next
credit card account and there are rumours that our Club Secretary
"broke the bank" but nothing could be substantiated
because everyone who went is maintaining a code of silence with that
well known phrase... "what happens on the trip, stays on the
trip!!" |
