X-MEN  RULE  THE  ROOST - PREMIERS  2008-09

The X-Men have conquered over a spirited Blackburn side by 13 runs to 11 - to be crowned Premiers for 2008-09. In a game that see-sawed throughout, both sides racked up 16 hits apiece, but it was Waverley's tenacity to score heavily in both the second and fifth innings that was to prove to be the difference between the two teams.

Birthday boy (Coochie Coo Cotchin) took to the hill to start off proceedings and it was evident that the Orioles were going to exploit every avenue to gain extra bases- stealing on almost every occasion they got to first. But Gary kept his cool and although the opposition scored two runs in the first, the Waverley guys were not going to let this one slip through their fingers.

Youngster, Steve Hunter was kept busy with many hard hit balls coming his way.

In the second dig, Waverley showed their true metal notching up five runs to go ahead 5-2
Hits to Orrs, Murph, Cotchy and SOD kept the scoreboard ticking over. Pagey relieved Cotchy and the Orioles found his pitching more to their liking.

Innings 3 & 4 and it was Blackburns turn to gain the ascendancy scoring 2 and 4 runs respectively to go ahead 8 - 6. In true Waverley tradition, they rebounded strongly to score seven runs in their half of the fifth to now lead  13 - 8 with hits coming from Mako, Rev, skipper Pagey and Orrs, who was having a great game.

Rain intervened momentarily and this allowed the visitors to gather some composure and mount their final challenge. Another run in the sixth and a further two in the seventh closed the gap to two runs but this was not enough and the Boys from Napier Park take home the spoils for this season.
