2008 CLAXTON SHIELD NEEDS WBC

The Waverley Baseball Club has TWO VERY IMPORTANT REASONS to encourage our supporters to attend the upcoming 2007/08 CLAXTON SHIELD games.

Firstly, and most importantly, it is vital that all Victorian (and Australian) baseball fans support this flagship event on the national baseball calendar. Our own head-coach David White will be managing Victoria's defending champions once again, along with our popular former manager Dan McConnon. The team is likely to feature several of our own favourite Waverley players and we should give them and their VICTORIAN ACES team mates all the tangible support we can by attending games. It is also highly likely that this will be the last ever Claxton Shield as we know it, with the probable advent of our new national Baseball League next summer.

Secondly, and vitally important to the Waverley Baseball Club, is the fact that all Victorian baseball clubs have been given an allocation of tickets to sell to their members at a reduced price. However, under VBA policy, the club will be responsible for bearing the cost of those tickets that we do not sell. PLEASE support the Waverley Baseball Club by purchasing your tickets via the club and PLEASE purchase tickets so that you can support the Victorian Aces.

Our SIX home fixtures are:

v WA on Fri 11 Jan 2008 7pm and on Sat 12 Jan 2008 3pm and 7pm @ Melb Ballpark

v SA on Fri 1 Feb 2008 7pm and on Sat 2 Feb 2008 3pm and 7pm @ Melb Ballpark

We also have away fixtures in Adelaide on 28/29 Dec 2007 and 
in Perth from 24-26 Jan 2008.

PLEASE register you interest in purchasing tickets from the Waverley Baseball Club by contacting our club President ROSS NEILSON directly on 0409 663347 as soon as you possibly can. It would help us enormously if you could register your interest early.

The club, via TONY GERRATY, is requesting assistance from anyone who may know ANY source of new or used SOLID RUBBER MATTING that may be suitable for hanging to be used as a batting "shield" for eg. cyclone wire fences. Matting that can be re-cut into pieces approximately 1m x 1.5m would be most suitable. The club may be prepared to pay a reasonable price for the right material.

As many members of the Waverley Baseball Club would be aware, it is imperative for the future of the club that our facilities are upgraded to include lighting that would enable night time games, at least for our main diamond.

In order for this to become a reality, there are many factors that need to be considered and a lot of "political obstacles" that may need to be overcome.

The club is keen to gather people who may have something to contribute to the preparation of a "feasibility and impact study" as a starting point for moving forward with this.

As always, the Waverley Baseball Club badly needs the financial support that is provided by sponsorships. As our Junior Program increases in numbers it develops additional needs therefore we have set up a new Fundraising & Social Committee.

We are seeking volunteers who are prepared to assist us in a program to develop a good social family orientated environment whilst raising money to get new shelters/covers for the grounds and additional equipment.
