Wildcats Named Top Sporting Club
in Monash for 2005
14 November 2005 The Waverley Baseball Club - the Wildcats - has been named the City of Monash Club of the Year for 2005. The 45-year-old home club of a host of national, international and Olympic representative players won this year's title from 10 shortlisted sporting clubs from the City of Monash. Presenting the award, Monash Mayor, Stephen Dimopoulos said Waverley Baseball Club was regarded as one of the most successful sporting clubs in the country and had produced 14 full international and Olympic representatives in recent years. "This year the club has eight senior teams and 42 junior teams playing each weekend, it has started a Masters team, a second women's team and a senior winter team," he said. "Showing how success begets success, it has gained more than 100 new members and worked with many local primary schools to introduce t-ball to the school program.
"The Wildcats have become part of the local
fabric of Monash through its emphasis on junior development and its reputation
for producing players who have gone on to perform at the highest levels. I
congratulate the club on its success and wish it all the best for the
future."
The Mayor presented the club with a BBQ valued at $269 as part of the prize for winning the award. The Club of the Year award was inaugurated in 2004 to recognise the administrative and community work of a City of Monash tenant club. Clubs are assessed for the award on:

Just in case you don't know him, DAVID McWATTERS is one of Australia's finest young pitchers who was a key performer for the Claxton Shield winning VICTORIA ACES at the recent 2002 carnival in Melbourne. A product of the prolific Waverley Baseball Club in Melbourne and the ABL's Melbourne Reds, David has experienced what it is like to be a young baseball prospect in Australia who travelled to pursue his baseball career through the US college system. David plays Independent League baseball in the USA with Kalamazoo Kings and he returned to Melbourne this summer to star with Waverley in the VBA. Holly is David's American wife who is also knowledgeable about US college baseball both as a fan and via her involvement with sports medicine. Very simply, David and Holly are offering the benefit of their experience to help any young Australians who may be considering the same baseball path via the US college system with a range of professional information kits, contacts and advice. This is a "minimal cost" service that they provide to help young Australian baseballers, not a high cost "player agent" style of management company. In our view, any young baseballer who who may be considering the US college system would be foolish not to avail themselves of the services offered by David & Holly McWatters... and they are also very nice people! |
