SEPTEMBER SIMON BERESFORD was unlucky to be "saddled" with another loss, although he actually lowered his ERA by conceding just one run from his 2.0 innings pitched. Word has it that the "big fella" is throwing very hard... the rest will come with more experience. Simon has had a promising first season and his professional future lays very much ahead! |
| 1
SEPTEMBER SIMON BERESFORD pitched 1.1ip and gave up only one hit, although it cost him another earned run. Strangely, Simon again "terrorised" his catcher and opposing hitters by adding another wild pitch and another hit batter to those season totals! |
| 30
AUGUST PETER TAUTOR suffered what could only be described as a "shocker", getting out only one of the nine batters he faced while giving up six runs in a performance that included a hit batter and a wild pitch! |
| 28
AUGUST PETER TAUTOR was saddled with his 5th loss of the season after facing just three batters, hitting one with a pitch and coughing up two runs courtesy of a home run! It was not 'Big Pete's' day! |
| 26
AUGUST SIMON BERESFORD was again a little 'wild' today getting one out at the cost of one run, but he also issued two walks and (never frightened to pitch inside) he hit his 5th batter for the season so far. GRANT KARLSEN found it tough today striking out three times, but he did manage a sacrifice hit. |
| 25
AUGUST DAVID McWATTERS returned to the winners circle today with a much more "McWatters Like" performance than his previous outing. Our 'D-MAC' pitched a fine 7.0 innings start for just two runs to secure his 8th win of the year. PETER TAUTOR did not have such a good time, taking his 4th loss with a disastrous 6-run relief performance from 2.2ip. |
| 23
AUGUST GRANT KARLSEN continues to "come around" with another 1-4 effort, including a double and his 10th RBI coming via a sacrifice fly... do we need to mention "team hitting" again!? |
| 21
AUGUST GRANT KARLSEN gives every impression that he may be "finding his feet" in the US with a performance more like those we have come to expect of him in Melbourne. Young Grant batted 1-3 but, significantly, he delivered 2 RBI's and walked twice in a display of "typical Waverley" team batting to raise his on base percentage considerably. |
| 20
AUGUST Both SIMON BERESFORD and PETER TAUTOR lowered their ERA's today with some very tidy hitless relief work. Young Simon faced "the minimum" two hitters for his 0.2ip with one strikeout, while 'Big Pete' pitched 1.2 innings for 2K's. |
| 18
AUGUST DAVID McWATTERS endured a rare rough start today and took his 4th loss of the season. Our 'D-MAC' was knocked around for ten hits from his 4.0ip, probably paying the price for being "too tidy" as he occasionally can be... that's baseball! PETER TAUTOR pitched another 3.0 innings today but was saddled with two earned runs. GRANT KARLSEN did not manage a safe hit, but he did deliver a RBI for his team. |
| 15
AUGUST GRANT KARLSEN would have enjoyed his plate appearances today with a strong 2-hit and 2RBI game... nice one! |
| 13
AUGUST SIMON BERESFORD may have been a little rusty from recent inactivity in his most recent 2.2 innings on the mound. ** Apologies that we previously reported that he gave up eight hits... actually it was THREE! ** |
| 12
AUGUST A typical model of consistency, DAVID McWATTERS added another sterling complete game victory to his already tremendous record. He struck out seven in nine innings while allowing only 2 earned runs for his 7-3, 2.40ERA record. PETER TAUTOR pitched 3.1 innings of relief and earned his third save of the season. |
| 8
AUGUST PETER TAUTOR pitched three innings of shutout baseball today to further improve his numbers! |
| 7
AUGUST DAVID McWATTERS was his usual "economic" self giving up only two earned runs over another fine 7.2 innings start but he received scant run support as his Kalamazoo Kings were beaten in a 2-1 "squeaker" by the River City Rascals and he was unlucky to be saddled with his 3rd loss of the season. SIMON BERESFORD, GRANT KARLSEN and PETER TAUTOR all made unspectacular appearances. |
| 4
AUGUST Finally given a full game to "work with" GRANT KARLSEN responded with a 1-4 game to slightly improve his average. |
| 3
AUGUST PETER TAUTOR pitched another two innings in relief and gave up two runs to slightly damage his ERA. |
| 2
AUGUST DAVID McWATTERS was his usual controlled and effective self again today with another tidy 7 innings start for only two earned runs that ended with a "no decision" for him. SIMON BERESFORD must have lost his usually reliable "radar" today with what could only be described as an "untidy" performance. Big 'Si' was saddled with his 3rd loss with 1.1ip 3h 3er while he also allowed 3 walks, a hit batter and a wild pitch... it was not typical of his effective pitching so far this season! |
| 30
JULY GRANT KARLSEN hasn't found his "stroke" yet, but he did manage to score a run after being hit by a pitch today. In fairness to young Grant (without making excuses) he is not seeing enough at bats to find any form right now! PETER TAUTOR added another "out" to his season with another brief relief effort. |
| 28
JULY SIMON BERESFORD continues to reduce his ERA with another scoreless 1.2 innings of relief. PETER TAUTOR was in the wrong place at the wrong time, saddled with his second loss in late relief. |
| 27
JULY DAVID McWATTERS was at his masterly best again with another quality start and his 12th victory for the Kalamazoo Kings. McWatters pitched an 8-innings four-hit "gem" with 5K's and his only run conceded via a solo home run! Also lowering his ERA with a solid innings of relief work was PETER TAUTOR who faced the minimum three batters today. |
| 26
JULY Youngster GRANT KARLSEN continues to battle a "rough start" to his professional career. He added a walk today but also struck out twice as his average would not be making him happy at the moment. Our message to young Grant is to somehow try not to let the pressure to "impress" get to him and let his natural talent shine through as it always has! |
| 23
JULY SIMON BERESFORD continues to impress in his rookie professional season, adding another win and another save to his season record in two strong appearances. PETER TAUTOR pitched another solid innings of relief. |
| 22
JULY PETER TAUTOR pitched a solid innings of relief, while DAVID McWATTERS pitched another terrific seven innings start but had to be content with a no decision when his team failed to hold the lead after he allowed only three runs! |
| 19
JULY Our boys experienced the "highs and lows" of relief pitching with PETER TAUTOR collecting a win, while SIMON BERESFORD was tagged with a loss although striking out four in 2.1 innings! |
| 18
JULY GRANT KARLSEN had only two plate appearances and drew a walk from one to raise his on base percentage. |
| 15
JULY SIMON BERESFORD appears to be "settling in" better with each outing because he added another impressive 3.0 innings and collected the save today, while not allowing a run. |
| 14
JULY DAVID McWATTERS did the kind of magnificent starter's job we have come to expect from him yesterday with an 8 innings three-hit shutout and the 5th win on his record for this season, helping his Kalamazoo Kings to beat Florence 5-0. Our 'D-MAC' pitched a superb 8.0ip 3h 0er 1bb 8k, for his season 2.43ERA. GRANT KARLSEN batted 1-3 to slightly improve his average. PETER TAUTOR was saddled with his 2nd loss of the season, but he retains a respectable record so far. |
|
11
JULY Our own SIMON BERESFORD picked up his first win today with a tidy three innings of relief work. Beresford struck out three in three innings and was stung for his only run by one home run ball... good job Si! Kalamazoo Kings announced today the release of field manager Ed Stabile. Owner Bill Wright is making the change due to off-field issues surrounding the Kings’ skipper. Catcher Mat Kent will serve as the team’s interim field manager, pitcher Matt Sheets as interim pitching coach and pitcher DAVID McWATTERS and outfielder Chris Carter as interim assistant coaches until the Frontier League All-Star Break, which begins on Tuesday, July 15. |
| 10 JULY
PETER TAUTOR retired "the minimum" three batters today in his relief appearance to lower his ERA "below three" while youngster Grant Karlsen hasn't yet "heated up" with the bat, but we reckon he will! |
| 9 JULY
DAVID McWATTERS again went the distance to record his fourth win, while striking out 12 batters for Kalamazoo against the Evansville Otters. |
