Since our
last report Waverley's 'Big Unit' SIMON
BERESFORD has continued to crank up the velocity as he is
finding full fitness at just the right time for the Helena Brewers
who are in the thick of the playoff action. 'Si' produced perhaps
his most impressive start for some time on 7 September when he
bamboozled the Great Falls White Sox with 3.2innings of shutout ball
with five strikeouts. How the Great Falls batters must have been
grateful for the pitch count that saw Beresford tugged after 3.2ip
3h 0er 0bb 5k in their 13-0 shutout victory.
In his latest start, Simon was not quite so devastating on paper,
but news tells us that the stats do not do full credit to his
efforts that put the Brewers on the path to a 7-4 victory in their
important playoff game against the Billings Mustangs. Beresford
pitched 3.2ip 7h 2er 2bb 2k on this occasion and he should get the
chance to pitch again now that he has helped Helena to advance to
the Pioneer League Championship series! |
|
 |
If anyone
deserved a Central League Championship ring it was Waverley's
pitching ace DAVID McWATTERS who did everything but put a
saddle on his back and carry his San Angelo Colts to the title!
After posting a marvellous 9-3, 4.43ERA record for the Colts who
couldn't always find him sufficient run support during the regular
season, McWatters was undoubtedly the Colts playoff hero. He started
with two wins in the semi-final playoff series to ensure the Colts
progressed past the Edinburg Roadrunners 3-2. McWatters levelled the
series in G2 pitching 6.0ip 7h 2er 1bb 3k, then clinched the 7-1
victory in G5 with a sublime 8.0ip 6h 1er 2bb 3k.
'D-MAC' then anchored San Angelo to a 2-1 series lead as the G3
starter in the Championship series with the Fort Worth Cats,
pitching 6.0ip 6h 4er 3bb 8k in their 10-5 victory. Sadly, the San
Angelo Colts were to go down fighting, losing the fifth game decider
7-2 to the Cats. David McWatters could not have done any more!
What we wouldn't give to have DAVID McWATTERS back in
Melbourne this summer, but in the meantime, our best wishes for the
festive season to David and Holly. The next time we see them won't be soon enough! |

Fabulous to
see young
Waverley lefty DONAVON HENDRICKS finishing the season
strong after some struggles this season. Donavon was outstanding in
closing the last five innings of the final regular season game,
combining for a five-hit, one run victory for his Danville Braves
who prevailed 6-1 over the Bluefield Orioles.
'Donnie' picked up his first win of the season at just the right
time to help the Braves into the Appalachian League Championship
series with his quite outstanding 5.0ip 3h 1er 1bb 5k.
Obviously he could not pitch again in the Best-of-3 finals in which
Danville were edged 2-1 by the Elizabethton Twins. Hendricks ended
the season on a high with his 1-2, 6.99ERA record. |
 |
Waverley
powerhouse SIMON
BERESFORD also finds himself healthy enough to turn up the
throttle towards the end of this US season, earning himself an
impressive win while anchoring the Helena Brewers 6-2 victory over
the Great Falls White Sox. 'Big Si' sliced through the tough part of
the contest with three scoreless frames of dynamic middle-relief,
pitching 3.0ip 3h 0er 2bb 2k to allow no way back into the contest
for his opponents! |
|
|
|
Statistics
updated for SIMON BERESFORD and DONAVON HENDRICKS who both saw their
ERA's go up a few points after allowing more hits than they would
like. Simon pitched a 4.0 innings start for the Helena Brewers and
allowed a couple of runs, while Donnie pitched another relief
outing. |
|
|
|
Statistics
updated for SIMON BERESFORD and DONAVON HENDRICKS who both took some
lumps in their latest relief appearances with the long ball doing
most of the damage, although Simon also added three more to his
impressive tally of strikeout victims. PETER TAUTOR has been inactive
lately, while the regular season has ended in DAVID McWATTERS'
Central Independent League with his San Angelo Colts to contest the
playoffs thanks largely to 'D-MAC's' own sterling efforts during the season. |
|
|
|
Since our
last update stats have been added for all of the Waverley players
above, apart from PETER TAUTOR and SIMON BERESFORD who have been inactive during this
period. Here are some brief performance updates. |
 |
Even though
his Danville Braves were already on their way to a 10-5 loss to the
Princeton Devil Rays, young
Waverley lefty DONAVON HENDRICKS did all he could to limit
the damage with three scoreless frames to close the game in fine
style. Donnie again did the job with admirable control, working
around four hits with a quite impressive 3.0ip 4h 0er 1bb 2k to have
his ERA heading in the right direction. |
 |
Waverley
favourite DAVID McWATTERS
ran into a "speed hump" with his third loss of the season coming as
the Pensacola Penguins whipped his San Angelo Colts 10-2. Our
'D-MAC' was unusually wayward with three walks and a couple of hit
batters not part of his usual repertoire! Dave departed after five
innings with 5.0ip 7h 5er 3bb 2k to take his still impressive record
to 9-3, 4.43ERA. |
|
|
|
Since our
last update stats have been added for all of the Waverley players
above, apart from PETER TAUTOR who has been inactive during this
period. Here are some brief performance updates. |
 |
Waverley
favourite DAVID McWATTERS
continues to do a sterling job as THE ACE in the San Angelo Colts
starting pitching rotation. Seemingly getting stronger as the season
progresses, 'D-MAC' has added another two terrific wins to his
resume from his next two starts, pitching a total of 12.0ip and
allowing only 3 more earned runs. Typically, he has maintained his
3-1 strikeout versus walk ratio with a great 9-2, 4.25ERA record! |
 |
Big SIMON
BERESFORD appears to have shaken off the cobwebs since his long
injury absence, continuing to impress following his combined
no-hitter last time out. With another start and a relief appearance
since, 'Si' has allowed only two earned runs in a total of 8.0ip
while overpowering most Rookie League hitters to the tune of 13
strikeouts versus just two walks! This is the type of stuff Simon
was delivering before the rib injury and it is an excellent sign
that the "big fella" is back in business! |
 |
Young
Waverley lefty DONAVON HENDRICKS continues to demonstrate improved
control this season, even if this means that he is allowing a few
more hits than he'd like so far. In two relief appearances since our
last update, 'Donnie' has pitched 4.0ip with two earned runs, while
issuing just one walk compared with five strikeouts. Our mail is
that Donavon is "progressing nicely" despite his currently
inflated ERA. |
 |
Young
Wildcat DANNY BERG has played in four more games and he
continues to find the going tough in the batters box, batting just
2-12 with a stolen base during this period. While he would no doubt
like a few more hits, Daniel is proving very solid on defence and he
remains very much the Waverley "team player". |
|
 |
"NO NO" SIMON BERESFORD IS BACK!!... AND HOW!
Waverley's Simon Beresford certainly has a happy knack of
hitting the headlines when his health is good and his pitching is
finding its spots! If he's not winning big debut games for Australia
or taking the 'Golden Arm Award' with an awesome performance at the
Claxton Shield, he's rebounding from injury in the US minor leagues
with the biggest of all pitching feats... A NO HITTER!! That's
right, Simon made a stunning return from a long rib injury absence
by starting for the Helena Brewers in their 11-0 shutout of the
Billings Mustangs. Simon must have bemoaned the strict pitch count
that allowed him only three innings, but he was the starting pitcher
in the first ever NO HITTER thrown by the Helena franchise and, by
all accounts, he left the Mustangs reeling with his velocity and
variety! For those who had seen Simon in recent rehab, his sizzling
performance was no surprise as the 'Big Fella' has been itching to
get back on the mound and show what he can do when pain free. Among
the three other relievers who completed the job was a fellow
Australian named David Welch, a lefty from New South Wales. |
|
|
Statistics
have been updated for DAVID McWATTERS, PETER TAUTOR, DANNY BERG and DONAVON HENDRICKS
above.
Of them, maybe 'Big Pete' Tautor has had the best time recently with
a hitless inning of work for the Fort Myers Miracle as a late
reliever.
David McWatters had a "below par" start by his standards last time
on the mound, taking another no decision with one of his shortest
starts for the year.
'Donnie' and 'Danny' have been finding it hard to deliver their best
form just lately, but we are all behind them! |
|
 |
Since our
last report Waverley's DAVID McWATTERS finally had his
terrific winning streak broken with only his second loss of the
season, however, he really bounced back with a more typical 'D-MAC'
start to anchor his San Angelo Colts 10-8 win over the Shreveport
Sports. McWatters was again unfortunate to be left with a "no
decision" after pitching a first class 6.0ip 7h 3er 2bb 4k
performance. |
|
|
Statistics
have been updated for PETER TAUTOR, DANNY BERG and DONAVON HENDRICKS
above, but there has not been a lot to rejoice for our young
Waverley lads lately in the pro ranks. Rookie Danny Berg has been a
good contributor for his team at times, but he is struggling to find
the "groove" with his bat to date. Donnie Hendricks had one poor
outing where he struggled by issuing walks, which has been most
uncustomary for him so far this season. 'Big Pete' Tautor also had a
tough time last time in relief when he simply couldn't buy an out! |
|
 |
Waverley's DAVID McWATTERS
simply continues to roll in the way we have become accustomed with
yet another controlled performance bringing his 7th win of the
season and his 6th in succession! Our 'D-MAC' anchored the 6-4 win
for the San Angelo Colts over the Jackson Senators with his splendid
7.0ip 7h 1er 2bb 5k performance that has seen his record improve to
a more worthy 7-1, 3.87ERA! CHEERS DAVE! |
|
|
Statistics
have been updated for DANNY BERG and DONAVON HENDRICKS
above, while our news is that big SIMON BERESFORD is
continuing his rehab from a nasty and lingering rib injury that has
threatened to de-rail his season. Simon is back throwing bullpen and
may not be far away from returning to action, hopefully injury free! |
|
 |
Waverley's DAVID McWATTERS
collected his second Pitcher of the Week Award in succession after
another dominant victory for his San Angelo Colts 5-2 over the
hapless Edinburg Roadrunners. Once again our 'D-MAC' proved the
master of control pitching with a sublime seven innings start. He
pitched 7.0ip 7h 2er 1bb 6k to secure his sixth win o0f the season
and, after a troubled start, he now boasts an excellent 6-1, 4.07ERA
record. |
 |
Young
Wildcat DONAVON HENDRICKS
continues to perform very well in late relief or as a closer for the
Danville Braves. In his last outing he helped put the lid on a 10-5
victory for the Braves over the Pulaski Blue Jays with only a solo
home run doing some damage to an otherwise strong performance. He
pitched 2.0ip 2h 1er 0bb 1k on this occasion, but it would be his
11-1 strike outs versus walks ratio so far this season that would be
impressing his coaches at Atlanta in a BIG way! |
 |
Waverley's DANNY BERG
suddenly finds his batting average on the rise as he seems to be
acclimatising to life as a rookie league professional. While he
still does not get to start every day, young Danny seems to be
finding his stroke and no doubt some confidence too. In a recent
game our Danny batted 4-5 with a double and two RBI's to help his
GCL Twins to beat the GCL Reds 7-2... it's hard to top that! |
|
 |
Suddenly,
the San Angelo Colts seem to have only one pitcher who they can rely
upon for a positive result... you guessed it, Waverley's DAVID McWATTERS!
Our 'D-MAC' culminated a terrific winning run by collecting the
Central League's Pitcher of the Week after cementing his fifth win
of the season for the Colts in their 4-2 victory over the Edinburg
Roadrunners, for their only win in the last NINE games! David
pitched another superlative start with 7.1ip 4h 1er 0bb 7k to take
his record to a steadily more impressive 5-1, 4.20ERA. GO
'D-MAC'! |
 |
Young
Wildcats' star DONAVON HENDRICKS
was one out away from another stellar performance when he was tagged
for a couple of "consolation runs" while trying to close out the
Danville Braves 5-4 win over the Bluefield Orioles. However, while
he allowed four hits, Donnie also struck out four in 2.2 innings of
pretty impressive relief pitching. His line today was another fine
2.2ip 4h 2er 0bb 4k. Looking GOOD Donnie! |
 |
Wildcat PETER
TAUTOR finally received some reward for persistence
during a tough season when he collected the save as his Fort Myers
Miracle powered past the Palm Beach Cardinals 13-6. 'Big Pete'
closed the last three innings for the 'Miracle' and demonstrated
more control than he has for a while pitching 3.0ip 4h 2er 1bb 3k.
Although he did not escape entirely unscathed, we hope he is now
heading in a positive direction. Best of luck Pete! |
 |
Waverley's DANNY BERG
emerged from a minor hitting drought, batting 1-3 with a run scored
for the GCL Twins today, helping them to overpower the GCL Pirates
8-4. Daniel started at second base today, but has played mostly at
third in the Twins "infield shuffle" so far this season. |
|
 |
Wildcat DANNY BERG
has added a couple more appearances for the GCL Twins but he is not
finding much to hit as he has walked three times from his last
eleven plate appearances. While he would obviously like to improve
upon his .179 batting average, his .324 on base percentage is not
too shabby... keep at it Danny! |
|
 |
Waverley's DAVID McWATTERS
continues to impress his new team the San Angelo Colts with some
"career best" form after a relatively slow start to the season. Our
'D-MAC' simply mowed down the batters today with his fourth win to
help the Colts to overpower the Coastal Bend Aviators 9-2. In a
typical display of McWatters poise and control he pitched a sublime
7.0ip 6h 1er 0bb 8k... yep, walked none and struck out EIGHT... top
job Dave! |
|
 |
DONAVON HENDRICKS
was most impressive again, helping his Danville Braves to beat the
Greenville Astros 7-4 today with his splendid middle-relief effort.
Donnie made short work of the Greenville hitters, facing only one
above the minimum with 2.0ip 1h 0er 0bb 2k... NICE JOB! |
 |
In his
latest relief performance PETER
TAUTOR was harshly dealt with by the Sarasota Reds who
were on their way to pounding his Fort Myers Miracle 11-3. 'Big
Pete' was not the only Fort Myers' pitcher looking for a "miracle"
on this occasion when he pitched 1.0ip 4h 3er 1bb 2k. |
 |
Waverley's DANNY BERG
may be struggling to adjust to his inconsistent starting
opportunities with a couple more outings for his GCL Twins, but only
one more hit for the stats sheet. In his last start at third base,
our Danny batted 1-5 to help the Twins to beat the rival GCL Red
Sox. |
|
 |
The San
Angelo Colts are finally coming to the assistance of Waverley's
pitching ace DAVID McWATTERS
who collected his second win on the trot and third for the season in
their 12-1 win over the El Paso Diablos. In maybe his most
impressive start for 2005, our 'D-MAC' blitzed the Diablos with a
complete game 9.0ip 9h 1er 2bb 4k. |
 |
Also great
to see our PETER
TAUTOR back on the mound for the Fort Myers Miracle,
earning his first hold of the season with a pretty decent innings of
middle relief, helping his team to beat the Tampa Yankees 3-1. 'Big
Pete' pitched 1.0ip 1h 1er 2bb 1k to slightly lower his unflattering
ERA... keep at it Pete! |
 |
Young
Wildcat DANNY BERG continues his "run per game" start to his
pro career with the Gulf Coast League Twins, boasting an excellent
.412 on base percentage after four games. Our Danny is doing a
pretty good job of making the most of irregular playing time, which
can be a tough thing to do! |
|
 |
Although his
Danville Braves were soundly beaten 7-2 by the Princeton Devil Rays,
young
Waverley star DONAVON HENDRICKS could not have done any more
than close the losing cause effectively for his team. "Donnie' did
this with a minimum of fuss and in fine style with 1.0ip 0h 0er 0bb
2k... GO DONNIE! |
 |
With the
Gulf Coast Rookie League now up and running, Waverley is proud to
boast that another of our "junior products" DANNY BERG has
joined the pro ranks. Danny has had a couple of starts at third base
with the Gulf Coast Twins and he has hit in each game to help them
to beat the GC Red Sox and GC Reds so far. He is currently in a
"platoon" situation with other infielders, but it is a most
promising start. Our best wishes DANNY! |
|
 |
At last some
good news to bring you about one of Waverley's finest SIMON
BERESFORD who, like most Australian lads, apparently didn't know
how to complain when things were getting tough! Our "inside
information" is that 'Simmo' didn't feel like grizzling to the
trainers at West Virginia while trying to pitch with a troublesome
shoulder that had clearly reduced his effectiveness in his last couple of
weeks with the Power! The good news for Simon is that he was
considered too valuable to the Brewers for them to send him home, so
instead they sent him to rehab and recapture his rhythm with their
Rookie League team Helena. |
|
 |
Waverley's DAVID McWATTERS
finally caught a break with some long awaited run support, earning
his second win of the season with another typically sound start for
his San Angelo Colts who blitzed the Edinburg Roadrunners 14-2. Our
'D-MAC' provided the quality start for the Colts with 7.0ip 8h 1er
2bb 4k... Cheers Dave! |
|
 |
Young
Waverley star DONNIE HENDRICKS had his first outing with the
Danville Braves today as the Appalachian Rookie League gets
underway, helping them to a 6-2 win over the Pulaski Blue Jays.
Donavon was called to mound in middle relief and was credited with a
"hold" pitching 1.0ip 3h 1er 1bb 0k in a reasonable pipe opener! |
|
 |
Wildcats'
favourite DAVID McWATTERS
is entitled to feel "snakebitten" once again when his San Angelo
Colts rallied late once again to beat the El Paso Diablos 9-6, but
left him with another superbly pitched NO DECISION! Our 'D-MAC'
seems to be settling and getting stronger with each outing pitching
6.0ip 7h 3er 2bb 5k today. |
|
 |
We have no
word on why Waverley's
popular DAVID McWATTERS
made a fairly early exit after producing yet another quality start,
but collecting another no decision, in his San Angelo Colts 5-4 win
over the Pensacola Pelicans. McWatters was "yanked" after allowing
Pensacola's fourth run in the sixth innings after allowing only five
hits while also striking out five! We are entitled to feel that our
'D-MAC' may have been robbed of another well deserved WIN! Dave
pitched 5.1ip 5h 4er 2bb 5k on this occasion. |
|
 |
In the
context of a "wild" 30-hit slugfest, it was another typically solid
and effective start by Waverley's DAVID McWATTERS
for the San Angelo Colts who was again left with a "no decision"
when they lost late 7-6 to the Shreveport Sports. 'D-MAC' actually
lowered his ERA despite twelve hits pitching 7.0ip 12h 5er 2bb 6k
today. |
|
 |
A couple of
nightmares came back to haunt our
SIMON
BERESFORD today as he continues top ride a roller-coaster
season in the South Atlantic League. One again he ran into a "buzz
saw" in the form of the rampant Lakewood Blue Claws who were already
well on their way to a 17-4 drubbing of his West Virginia Power by
the time he was called to the firing line! Also a more "controlled"
Beresford has found it tough to keep the ball inside the yard this
season and he was exploited for a couple more 'big flys' today
pitching 0.1ip 2h 3er 1bb 0k. |
|
 |
Only another
ninth inning 'dinger' would prevent our
SIMON
BERESFORD from really enjoying an otherwise pretty solid
closer's performance for the West Virginia Power who secured a rare
success 13-8 over the Lakewood Blue Claws. We are assured that
Simon's form is better than his numbers so far! His line was 1.0ip
2h 2er 0bb 1k. |
|
 |
Waverley's DAVID McWATTERS
proved the fickle nature of baseball pitching today when one of his
best starts of the season delivered his first loss of the year when
his San Angelo Colts could not find him any run support in their 3-1
loss to the Fort Worth Cats. Our 'D-MAC' pitched a splendid 6.2ip 4h
2er 1bb 8k to give his team every chance of securing his second win,
but he could not have possibly been asked for more on this day! |
|
 |
Waverley's DAVID McWATTERS
was finally rewarded with his first win of the season with his new
team, the San Angelo Colts, on a roll recently and taking a 6-5
victory over the Fort Worth Cats. 'D-MAC' anchored the win with his
typically sound start of 5.0ip 9h 5er 2bb 6k, taking his record to a
healthier looking 1-0, 6.99ERA. |
|
 |
SIMON
BERESFORD was bringing some of his best stuff today, making
sure that the Lake County Captains could not expand upon their
already handsome 10-5 advantage over his West Virginia Power. 'Si'
brought the Captain's scoring to an abrupt halt with an impressive
2.1ip 2h 0er 1bb 2k performance sure to boost his confidence. |
|
 |
I think they
call it "character building" Simon! Life gets tougher for our
SIMON
BERESFORD who has bee battling against the odds with his
struggling West Virginia Power this season, but today he endured the
ultimate baseball agony. Big Simon pitched the fateful last couple
of frames and copped his first loss when the Lake County Captains
tagged him for three runs to break open a 4-4 game with a 7-4 win in
the 15th innings! |
|
 |
In baseball
terms, Waverley's DAVID McWATTERS
is the opposite to Forest Gump's "box of chocolates", in his case
you always know pretty much what you are going to get... a quality
start and a chance to win the game! Unfortunately his San Angelo
Colts are not holding up their end of the bargain for him so far
this season as he took another no decision from their 9-6 loss to
the Coastal Bend Aviators. 'D-MAC' allowed a few more hits than he
would prefer on this occasion, but he once again demonstrated the
necessary poise and control to pitch around most of them. His line
today was 5.2ip 12h 3er 2bb 3k (6.56ERA). |
|
 |
Waverley's
SIMON
BERESFORD is not finding life quite so pleasant with the
struggling West Virginia Power after a terrific start to the season.
While still reportedly "pitching well" his results have
hit a bit of a speed-hump of late with some tough assignments in
middle-relief... which has rarely proven to be his favourite
pitching job?
Today he did not allow an earned run, but he would still not be
completely satisfied with 1.0ip 2h 0er 1bb 1k in West Virginia's
10-4 defeat by the Asheville Tourists. We await him being given the
opportunity to start games! |
|
 |
After a
couple of better performances recently, PETER
TAUTOR was back in the "hot seat" today
struggling in middle relief for the Fort Myers Miracle in their 11-0
shutout loss to the Jupiter Hammerheads. 'Pete' was not the only
Miracle pitcher who was looking for one today, pitching 1.1ip 2h 4er
3bb 1k. |
|
 |
DAVID McWATTERS
was a "bit of a mixture" today making his third start for
the San Angelo Colts with another "no decision" following
their 10-4 loss to the Jackson Senators. 'D-MAC' mixed nine hits
with seven strikeouts but he still had the Colts well in contention
when he finished his six innings start, pitching 6.0ip 9h 4er 2bb
7k. |
|
 |
PETER
TAUTOR continues to bounce back solidly from his
miserable start to the 2005 season with another uneventful closure
for his Fort Myers Miracle putting the lid on a 9-2 win over the
Daytona Dragons. 'Big Pete' faced the minimum in the ninth inning,
pitching 1.0ip 0h 0er 0bb 0k. |
 |
In the
always amusing words of Yogi Berra it was "deja vu all over again"
for Wildcats star SIMON
BERESFORD again today, being asked to come in cold to
relieve the West Virginia Power's starter after he had been shelled
from the mound with seven runs after two innings. Not to make
excuses for the 'Big Fella' but we're told that Si didn't have too
much luck again today, with a couple of "cheap" hits doing most of
the damage in a performance where only one of the runs he allowed was
earned. He pitched 1.0ip 3h 1er 1bb 1k, including a hit batter in
the Power's 14-0 shutout defeat by the Asheville Tourists. |
|
 |
Our SIMON
BERESFORD unfortunately continues to be haunted by the
"long ball" in each of his most recent outings. On this
occasion he was asked to dispose of the last inning of an ugly 5-14
loss by his West Virginia Power at the hands of the Kannapolis
Intimidators. In the second game of a double-header following a
couple of rain-outs 'Big Si' had maybe his worst outing for the
season. He uncharacteristically walked a couple, but once again all
of the runs he allowed were delivered by courtesy of one three-run jack! He
pitched 1.0ip 2h 3er 2bb 0k. |
|
 |
It will not
surprise too many of the Waverley faithful to hear that our DAVID McWATTERS
returned to his more typical and effective best today, even though
his San Angelo Colts bullpen could not finish the job in a 4-3 loss to
the Coastal Bend Aviators. 'D-MAC' struck out six on his way to a
terrific "no decision" start in his second outing for the
Colts, pitching 7.0ip 5h 3er 1bb 6k today. |
 |
Great to see
that PETER
TAUTOR has had some return to form today with a most
effective closer's job for the Fort Myers Miracle, despite their 6-2
defeat at the hands of the St.Lucie Mets. 'Big Pete' would have felt
much better to escape unscathed today after some recent rough
treatment, pitching 1.0ip 0h 0er 1bb 0k. |
 |
SIMON
BERESFORD has been introduced into some precarious game
situations during his short pro career, but none more that today
when he inherited a bases loaded "jam" in the ninth
innings and then he allowed a grand slam home run as the Delmarva
Shore Birds staged a remarkable comeback against his West Virginia
Power with a seven run ninth! Maybe more remarkable that the painful
"blown save" for Simon today was the fact that West
Virginia were able to rally back and secure him an unlikely 11-8
WIN! Baseball is a strange and sobering game! Beresford pitched
0.2ip 3h 2er 1bb 0k (includes an intentional walk) and I'm not sure
that he'll be feeling much like a "winner" on this
occasion... our advice to the 'Big Fella' is that you have to take
it while you can! |
|
 |
Waverley's SIMON
BERESFORD was back to his efficient best today, facing the
minimum three batters in his middle relief performance for the West
Virginia Power in their 4-2 loss to the Delmarva Shorebirds. Big
Simon made short work of his outing today with a ground ball and a
couple of meek fly-outs, pitching 1.0ip 0h 0er 0bb 0k. |
|
 |
One of our
favourite sons DAVID McWATTERS has suffered a rugged
introduction to his new life in the Central Independent League,
taking some uncharacteristic "stick" for his San Angelo
Colts in a brief 4.1ip 9h 7er 1bb 3k opening starting appearance.
Remarkably, he was not saddled with the loss when the Colts rallied
to sneak past the El Paso Diablos 15-14 in a "wild"
run-fest! |
|
 |
Given the
task of closing an ugly losing cause for his team SIMON
BERESFORD did exactly what would have been asked of him to
"not muck around" and put an end to the proceedings as quickly as
possible as his West Virginia Power were smacked 8-1 by the
Lexington Legends. Along the way he would not have liked allowing
another two-run homer and doing some damage to his recently
excellent ERA... that's life as a professional reliever!
Beresford pitched 1.0ip 2h 2er 0bb 1k (3.94ERA) today. |
|
 |
Things go
from "tough to tougher" for our PETER
TAUTOR as he tries to come to grips with 'High A' ball
with the Minnesota Twins' farm team Fort Myers Miracle. 'Big Pete'
can't seem to take a trick (or buy an out!) lately and today was
another painful experience in middle-relief. He faced two batters
and promptly issued a walk, then a hit batter to add another two
earned runs to his ledger, pitching 0.0ip 0h 2er 1bb 0k
(29.45ERA)... OUCH! Somehow the Miracle steadied to beat the Tampa
Yankees 5-3. |

SIMON
BERESFORD was reportedly "blowing smoke" today as a
middle-reliever for the West Virginia Power in their 8-2 loss to the
Greensboro Grasshoppers. Once again he was gifted the unenviable
task of putting the brakes on the Grasshoppers who had already
racked up seven runs from the Power's starting pitcher after just
1.1 innings. Under the circumstances he could be pretty pleased with
his "momentum halting" performance of 2.2ip 2h 1er 2bb 3k
(3.00ERA) even if it was probably his "wildest" showing so
far this season and he was taken deep again with a solo homer. At
least he took much of the timing away from the red-hot Greensboro
hitters! |

SIMON
BERESFORD took a little stick today closing a losing cause for
the West Virginia Power in their 3-0 shutout defeat at the hands of
the Greensboro Grasshoppers. Simon managed to contain four hits reasonably
well with his only earned run coming from a solo home run. He
pitched 2.0ip 4h 1er 0bb 3k (2.92ERA) with, most noticeably once
again, three strikeouts versus no walks... this remains a great
sign for Beresford's continued development! |

'Big Pete' PETER
TAUTOR continues to do it tough, trying to close games
for the Fort Myers Miracle. Pete was hammered again in successive
games, this time pitching 1.0ip 4h 4er 1bb 1k (24.55ERA) in the
Miracle's 8-1 loss to the Lakeland Tigers. Clearly, he needs to
regain some confidence very soon! |

PETER
TAUTOR continues to endure a torrid start in the Advanced
Florida 'A' League when he made his third relief appearance for the
Fort Myers Miracle in their 7-5 win over the Dunedin Blue Jays. Pete
was knocked out of his late relief effort today without recording an
out, pitching 0.0ip 3h 4er 1bb 0k (20.25ERA). The good news for 'Big
Pete' at this stage is that things can only get better from here! We
have our fingers crossed for him! |

As he has
done so often in his pro career, our SIMON
BERESFORD was the man entrusted with the "dirty work" for the
West Virginia Power in their 8-7 loss to the Hickory Crawdads today.
In fact our "spies" tell us that Simon did an excellent job of
