 2010 LATEST: (AUSTRALIAN Dates)
Sorry, we decided not to start these reports until later this season for a couple of reasons.
We wanted the Independent Leagues to get underway so that we could include Scotty Wearne and, truthfully, our other pro guys did not enjoy great statistical starts to the 2010 season.
They are travelling OK now!

6 AUGUST 2010 - Alphabetically

No time to give a detailed account this time but here is some brief information.
JAMES BERESFORD has continued to heat up with the bat over the past month and he has just recently seen a 14 game hitting streak ended. His rise from a miserable .056 average to start the season to his current .291 average has been a spectacular tribute to his character and the talent we always knew he possessed.
TRAVIS BLACKLEY still hasn't pitched since June 15 as he remains on the disabled list.
CODY HAMS has now made nine relief appearances and he has been quite good generally to own a win, a loss and a save while boasting a very impressive 15/4 strike outs versus walks ratio.
JOSHUA HENDRICKS has now made just eight disjointed appearances for the Gulf Coast Rookie League Twins after a setback during pre-season training which required bone surgery to his hand. As a consequence Joshua hasn't been able to do much else than take the occasional at bat as a designated hitter or pinch hitter. It would be unfair to assess his performance based on this scenario.
SCOTT WEARNE still owns a batting average of .343 and he is putting up the kind of numbers we have come to expect from a player of 'Wearney's' quality and consistency. He has taken his all-round game to Brockton.

2 JULY 2010 - Alphabetically

No time to give a detailed account this time but here is some brief information.
JIMMY BERESFORD has been on another hot hitting streak this past week after a relatively quiet previous week. From 272 at bats he is now batting a solid .279 and, if you were to erase his first dozen games, he would be owning an average well above the .300 plateau. He may yet before this season ends! He has batted .310 over his past ten games as an indication of what he can do.
TRAVIS BLACKLEY hasn't pitched since June 15 and his statistics haven't changed since our last report.
CODY HAMS has now made three relief appearances and is still yet to allow an earned run from 2.0 innings.
JOSHUA HENDRICKS has just played his first Rookie League game, so we'll be keeping an eye on his progress.
SCOTT WEARNE has now played 30 games with the Brockton Rox and, having just ticked past 100 at bats for the season, he is still batting a terrific .339, with seven stolen bags.

18 JUNE 2010 - Alphabetically

Wildcats whiz JIMMY BERESFORD started the season apparently struggling to find a hit with the bat, even though he did not let this affect his always sterling defence that has been even more sound so far this year.
Our information is that James wasn't batting nearly as badly as his statistics might have suggested with a number of hard hit balls finding the defensive gloves as we know they can at times. In any case he would not have enjoyed seeing his batting average plummet to "below 60 cents" in the early weeks of the new season. As most of the 'Waverley Nation' would expect it didn't take him long to start turning that around and it is a significant credit to him that his current batting average now stands at a pretty healthy .274 which has required him to put up a sustained period of very good and consistent hitting through May and June.
In summary he is now looking very much like the James Beresford we all know so well

Waverley's recent major league pitcher TRAVIS BLACKLEY started the season with the New York Mets organisation but he never quite seemed to settle with their 'AAA' Buffalo Bisons where he pitched four outings in relief. After falling out there he made a couple of appearances with Dorados de Chihuahua in the Mexican 'AAA' League. Thankfully he was soon signed by the Oakland Athletics where he seems to have found a more comfortable home. He currently owns a most impressive 1-1, 1.63ERA record with their 'AAA' Sacramento River Cats after starting four of his seven games so far.
It would not surprise to see him back in the big leagues before this season concludes.

Young Waverley recruit CODY HAMS has not yet pitched because the Rookie Leagues have not yet commenced and we anticipate he will start the season at this level again in 2010.

Who could possibly be surprised that Waverley's consistent star SCOTTY WEARNE has almost immediately become one of the leading players in the Independent Can-Am League with the Brockton Rox. Right from the start of the season Wearne has maintained his hardly unusual average of above .350 and, also typically, his all-round mixture of high on base percentage and occasional power sees his OPS hovering above .900.
'Wearney' is the Brockton Rox batting leader at present and, as we say, who could be surprised at that?
